Resume       Philosophy      Services

I am a graduate of Rider University majoring in psychology and elementary education.  During my undergraduate studies, I completed an internship at Princeton Child Development Institute where I observed and assisted in the middle to high school class for approximately four months.  I learned how to take data, give timed differential reinforcement of other behavior, implement a token system, implement picture schedules to assist children with conversational skills and independent activities, and various other ABA techniques.

In addition to receiving my bachelor’s degree, I became a certified elementary school teacher in NJ and PA.  I am also certified to teach special education in PA.  I currently have 15 graduate level credits in education from Holy Family College.  I have also completed 12 credits through Penn State University towards my Certification as a Behavior Analyst. I graduated with my Masters in Education from Penn State in the Spring of 2004.

I worked in the mental health field as a case manager for children for approximately two years before deciding to try special education.  Bucks County Intermediate Unit then employed me as a teacher assistant in an autistic classroom using discrete trial.  Rutgers provided consultative services for that classroom when I was there.  I began taking graduate classes at Holy Family College at that time to obtain my special education teacher certification.  A short time later, I was hired by Pathway School to run a discrete trial classroom (a teacher position).

My role as teacher in that classroom was to run the programs of five autistic children.  This included monitoring the children's drills (checking data, troubleshooting, changing drills as they were mastered or not progressing), conducting team meetings (each child had a meeting every three weeks where the parents, discrete trial therapists, specialists such as speech and OT, and any other relevant person attended), writing behavior plans, and supervising discrete trial therapists (one for each child).  Pathway used Sue Hoban and Associates' curriculum and they provided me with consultative services during that time.

I also worked in an older classroom serving pre-adolescent children with autism within Pathway.  We focused more on life skills and vocational preparation and were using ABA but not discrete trial.

In addition to my employment with Pathway, I also worked with a 3-year-old girl with autism in her home as the lead therapist.  I trained new therapists, created data sheets, ran the team meetings, troubleshot problem areas, and did drills.

I then joined the teaching staff at the Bucks County Intermediate Unit #22.  My classroom was ABA based with discrete trial teaching.  I worked with 6 students, 5 staff, and a Certified Behavior Analyst.  My duties as teacher were similar to those at Pathway.

My clients as a consultant have included children from 2 years old to adults as old as 31. My experience includes clients in pre-school, elementary, middle, high school, and adults in either day programs or staying at home. Their abilities range from non-verbal to verbal, "low functioning" to "high functioning", and home schooled to integrated regular education.

In January 2000, I attended a consultation by Dr. Partington from the STARS School for a 4-year-old boy with autism.  I was able to view their teaching technique as well as discuss their suggestions for the child. Since that time, I have delved into verbal behavior and began successfully implementing it with my clients.

I attend as many conferences as possible to keep up with new research findings and applications for research. I have been fortunate to hear Dr. Carbone speak at two separate conferences as well as attend his first and fourth workshops.

I can offer your child a program that is individualized to his or her needs.  I have been fortunate to experience several different discrete trial programs and their strengths and weaknesses.  I am able to use that knowledge to provide a developmentally appropriate, well-organized, data driven program that focuses on your child.

I believe that therapy should be fun.  Your child needs to be motivated in order to achieve his potential.  In addition, the information your child learns MUST be generalized.  It is not helpful to your child to learn things if they can only demonstrate that knowledge at the drill table or with only one person.  I have found that these are two areas that other programs want to achieve but have little success.  It is a priority in my program.
